Drink Drivers Beware
With the festive period fast approaching the temptation to have a few drinks and then risk driving gets even stronger. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that drink driving is extremely dangerous, but it can also play havoc with your car insurance and could result in you becoming uninsurable.
These days if you are caught to be drink driving you can expect to see the cost of your car insurance premium to rise dramatically and in some extreme cases be banned from driving.
Recent research taken out by Moneysupermarket.com, the UK’s leading price comparison site, shows that a driver convicted of drink driving can see their annual premium rise from an average of £400 to £678, this is a massive £278 difference.
As mentioned earlier, some insurance providers will not provide you with any cover as you are a much higher risk on the road than a driver who has not been convicted.
The Home Office carried out a survey recently which highlighted a shocking 10% of drivers had admitted to driving after drinking and being full aware that they were over the legal limit of alcohol allowed.
As Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at Moneysupermarket.com says; ‘On top of a massive hike in insurance premium costs, any convicted motorist is likely to find themselves with the difficult task of trying to find a provider who is prepared to insure someone with a drink driving conviction’.
