Phoenix Motorcars presented its newly configured Sports Utility Truck at the FedFleet 2010 Conference in Phoenix, Arizona on July 13-15, 2010. Phoenix Motorcars’ advanced battery-electric, zero-emission Sports Utility Truck can travel at freeway speeds while carrying four passengers and a full payload. Providing solutions geared towards today’s fleet operators, Phoenix Motorcars offers a 70 mile range pack with deliveries later this year. An extended 100 mile range pack option will be available for delivery in 2011. Each solution is equipped with lithium batteries. Phoenix Motorcars will shortly begin production making initial deliveries in late 2010. Initial vehicles will be included in demonstration programs, such as those previously announced in Hawaii, and fleet operations in various locations, including California.

Tesla Roadster Sits at China’s Great Wall,

A Tesla Roadster traveling around the world has arrived at the Great Wall of China. In May, the Roadster appeared for the first time in India and was hosted in Jaipur by His Royal Highness Sawai Bhawani Singh Bahadur, the last maharaja of Jaipur — Rajasthan’s most significant political, cultural and religious figure. Before that, the Roadster became the first non-Russian car to get official clearance to park in Moscow’s Red Square. Throughout India, Russia, China and other countries en route, the Roadster charges from conventional outlets using existing infrastructure. The TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster has charged from standard outlets at hotels, a solar panel array in Italy and even at a barn in rural Switzerland, demonstrating the versatility and ease of charging.

           

AeroVironment to Supply Electric Car “Re-fueling” Stations Throughout South Carolina

Plug In Carolina announced it has selected AeroVironment in Monrovia, Calif., to supply, install and support a network of public electric vehicle (EV) “re-fueling” stations in seven South Carolina cities. The charging network is expected to be operational by December 1, 2010 to support the variety of new EVs entering the roadways. AV offers a broad range of products and services, such as Level 2 charging stations for the home, and public and Level 3 fast charge public stations that can re-fuel a car battery in as little as 10 minutes. AV also offers robust, multi-modal communication, networking and payment systems that support the evolving needs of public charging infrastructure.

Tesla’s First Appearance at Madrid Auto Show

Tesla Motors is making its first appearance this week at Spain’s premier auto show, and the company is hosting test drives all week. The Madrid Motor Show, a top venue highlighting fuel-efficient cars, is May 20-23. Among hundreds of prototypes and concept cars on display at la Feria de Madrid, the Tesla Roadster stands out as the only highway-capable electric car already on sale.

Fisker Karma Coming to Tampa

Fisker Karma, the world’s first premium plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, will be in Tampa for the first time when Elder Automotive Group welcomes guests to an invitation-only reception at 320 East Fletcher Ave. on May 13. The Fisker Karma combines world-class luxury and sports car-like performance with industry-leading economy and zero tailpipe emissions. With 403hp it can reach 60mph in six seconds and a top speed of 125mph, yet it can achieve more than 100mpg on an annual basis. The Karma has a total range of 300 miles, 50 of which are electric-only and powered by a Lithium-ion battery from A123 Systems that can be fully recharged in as little as eight hours.

Tesla Roadster Heads to India

The Tesla Roadster arrives in India later this month as part of a 22,000-mile world tour. The Roadster, which runs on electricity and can be fully or partially recharged from renewables such as solar or wind energy, will spend about two weeks in India. The car will take center stage at a variety of VIP and public events.

Alias electric car and Jonway A380 electric SUV on Korea Electric Vehicle Challenge

The first-ever Korea Electric Vehicle Challenge took place this weekend outside Seoul with electric car pioneer ZAP and distribution partner in Korea Samyang Optics entering two vehicles under development, the Alias electric car and Jonway A380 electric SUV. The ZAP electric SUV is being developed through a partnership between ZAP and auto manufacturer Zhejiang Jonway Automobile Co. Ltd. targeting the China fleet market. The ZAP Alias electric car is entered in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize taking place this year.

FedEx Announces First All-Electric Trucks in The US

FedEx today announced the expansion of its alternative-energy vehicle fleet with the first all-electric FedEx parcel delivery trucks in the United States. Four purpose-built electric trucks—optimized for electric operation from the wheels up—are slated to hit the road in the Los Angeles area starting in June 2010, joining more than 1,800 alternative-energy vehicles already in service for FedEx around the world.
