Buying a new luxury car is exhilarating, and although you’re beyond excited to start showing off your fast new ride, you shouldn’t rush through the shopping process. The decision you make to purchase a new luxury car should be considered as carefully as any other major purchase; it’s important to make sure you’re getting a quality product from a reputable company and honest sales team.
You’ve been a car enthusiast for years, so you obviously know a lot about the automotive industry’s inner-workings. You probably already know exactly what make and model you want, as well as the color and other special features. But there’s another essential consideration that you should research: finding the right car dealer.
For starters, you should always shop around at a few dealerships before making your final decision about who to work with. Price might not be an issue for you, but why not take advantage of a great deal if one is available? For example, some dealers might offer you a way to personalize your car for a lower cost than you might have expected.
When you think you’ve found a good dealer, make sure that the business is licensed and bonded according to your state’s regulations. Believe it or not, the legal system is flawed, and if a problem should arise with the dealership you work with, you’ll want to know that your interests as a consumer are protected. State licensing regulations typically instruct dealerships to fulfill certain insurance and auto dealer bond requirements to protect against fraudulent business ventures. This means that if a dealer takes advantage of you, you’ll have a way to collect recompense.

Lemons aside, buying your car online can save you several thousand dollars. But it isn’t exactly easy making sure you don’t get stuck with a bucket of bolts when you live potentially thousands of miles away from the car you’re buying. There’s rarely a test drive involved, and even then, its only if you made the journey to test it, so are you really going to turn the offer down after coming all that way? It can be a difficult situation, but well worth it when done right.
Here are some quick things to consider when browsing, buying, test-driving, and shipping an automobile you’ve bought over the Internet:
When Buying…
1. Pay Attention to the Photography and the Geography
If a car spent much of its life in the baking sun of the southwest, then there might be some significant fading of paint color or the upholstery is blistered. An automobile being sold out of the north and Midwest has probably seen a lot of rain, snow, and ice. It’s important to compare the seller’s location with the seller’s photos of the vehicle. You might otherwise not notice the faded yellow of the hood or the browning of the cream leather interior.

In the United States, the high interest loan industry is big business. One arm of this type of lending is the big business of auto title loans. Title loans are essentially a way for people to borrow money by signing over the title of their vehicle to a lender for a certain amount of cash, typically nothing in excess of $10,000. In the event that the loan cannot be repaid, the lender can take possession of the automobile.
But these loans aren’t available everywhere, and in places where they are available they’re often extremely regulated. I was curious to find out what the laws were from place to place, but the search was a lot harder than I thought. The number of states that have made car loans illegal was discovered is right at 32.
